FAQ

Good questions

The things parents ask us most — answered the way we'd answer them over coffee.

Getting started

What happens in the free consultation?

Thirty minutes, parent-focused: your child's goals, history, and how they learn. We follow up with a recommended plan and a tutor match — no obligation either way.

How do you choose your tutors?

Every tutor is a degree-holding subject expert with 3+ years of teaching experience, a method background — Montessori, structured literacy, or multisensory instruction — strong family references, a background check, and a live teaching demo before we decide.

How do you match my child with a tutor?

A person, not an algorithm. Our director interviews every family and knows our tutors personally, so the match accounts for personality and learning style — not just subject and schedule. If the chemistry isn't right, we make it right at no cost.

What if it doesn't work out?

Every engagement is backed by our first-session guarantee: if the first session isn't a fit, you don't pay for it — we'll rematch you or refund it entirely. After that, there's no contract; pause or stop anytime.

How long until we see progress?

Most families notice attitude shifts within 3-4 weeks and measurable academic movement in 8-12 weeks. In Specialized Learning Support, literacy growth is tracked against the Learning Profile quarterly.

Specialized Learning Support

What is Specialized Learning Support, exactly?

Our specialized track for students with ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and other learning differences: structured literacy informed by Orton-Gillingham, multisensory math, and sessions built around movement and regulation.

Do you diagnose learning disabilities?

No — we're educators, not clinicians. Our Learning Profile guides instruction only. We're glad to coordinate with your child's psychologist, pediatrician, IEP, or 504 plan.

My child has an IEP or 504. Can you work with the school?

Yes. With your permission we align sessions with existing accommodations and can share progress notes directly with the school team.

Logistics

How do sessions work — in-home or online?

Both. In-home across the San Diego area, north to Encinitas, south to Chula Vista, and east to Poway, with a small travel fee; online anywhere. Same tutor and the same session rate in every format; only the travel fee differs.

What ages and subjects do you cover?

K-12, all core subjects, plus Spanish, executive function, study skills, and ISEE / HSPT / SAT / ACT preparation.

Pricing

What's your cancellation policy?

Free rescheduling with 24 hours' notice. Sessions cancelled with less notice are charged, with exceptions for illness and emergencies — we're parents too. Package credits never expire, and you can pause anytime.

Do you offer sibling or multi-session discounts?

Yes — a 10% sibling discount, and the Momentum package prices sessions below the single-session rate.
